Siem Reap Discovery – 4 Days & 4 Nights example tour
Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom, Bayon, Ta Prohm - Siem Reap based tour of the most important Cambodian temples including Tonle Sap Lake and Kulen Mountain.
| Day 1 - Arrival, Rolous Group, Angkor Wat | We shall meet you at the airport / ferry / bus station and bring you to Golden Mango Inn / Similar Hotel for checking in.
As soon as you feel prepared and have agreed upon the itinerary we intend to make a short drive to buy the temple pass at the check point in Angkor Park, then heading tovisit the Rolous Group of temples to the east of Siem Reap. Hariharalaya was the earliest Angkor capital in region and was built by Jayavarman II (the first god king) in the ninth century. The principle temples there are Preash Ko, Lo Lei and the beautiful Bakong, the temple mountain. We shall then explore a magnificent ancient archaeological Angkor Wat, ranked number 2 of all the wonders of the world and it is the biggest Hindu temple in Cambodia with a moat 200m wide and 5.5km long. This temple boasts many important bas-relief depicting Hindumythology and Angkor history.
| Day 2 - Angkor Thom, Small Circuit
| After breakfast, we shall intend to head directly to Angkor Thom, in its time the largest city in the world and political capital of King Jayavarman VII in the 12th century. We enter by the famous South Gate and see Bayon, Terrace of Elephant and Leper King and the golden palace, Phimeanakas with the beautiful Royalbaths.
In the afternoon we shall visit some of the temples of the small circuit including the famously picturesque Ta Phrom with its giant fig trees growing intertwined with the temple ruins. This is the temple of film ‘Tombraider”.
| Day 3 - Banteay Srey, Tonle Sap, Artisan Centre, Market
| After breakfast, we travel 37km through typical Khmer village at the countryside to visit Banteay Srey. Built in 967 AD by the great King Rajendravarman II, dedicated to Siva God. It is unique pink sandstone temple with stunningly decorated and inpristine condition. On the way back to Siem Reap we may sample some traditional palm sugar sweets from a roadside seller. We can then visit Banteay Samre, built by the architect of Suryavarman II who built Angkor Wat. In the afternoon we could take a Tonle Sap boat cruise to visit the floating village and see the surprising cultures of the people living there. It can be very photogenic at the lake. On the return journey to Siem Reap we would recommend visiting the Artisan Centre and market…etc.
| Day 4 - Kulen Mountain, War Museum, Siem Reap town
| After breakfast we shall drive to Kulen Mountain, the first holy city of Jayavarman II, the God king and the founder of the Angkor period in 802 AD. This is one of the sacred mountain in Cambodia. In the river on the mountain we can see extensive river carvings. Thousands of Shiva’s Lingams were carved into the river bed in early 9th century to purify the water that runs over them.
Moreover we can also see a large Buddha statue (3m x 8m) carved from the rock. This dates from around the 16th century when Buddhism became popular in Cambodia. We will lunch locally.
On the return journey to Siem Reap after 12pm, there are plenty of opportunities to stop and look around, take photographs of the countryside and understand the local agriculture and sample locally made sugar sweets. After we get into Siem Reap we may have chance to see war museum or town if you are not exhausted.
Naturally we shall bring you to airport / ferry or bus station for your departure. End of Service, Good luck !!!
